Instagram!

I have joined the world of the smart phones, and with it, instagram! Whhaaaat? So excited! My grandmother gave me her old iPhone because she got a new one. It was not my first choice of phone, but as my other one  had started to shut itself off at random intervals I wasn't really in a position to be picky. And I quite like my new iPhone, even if it is an older model. I've never had a phone that can do anything other than make calls and text before.

Back to the part where I have instagram! It is something I have wished I could have for a long time, so one of the first things I did with my new phone was download it. I think it's a really handy app and a great way to share photos with people. And it'll make my "life lately" posts waaaay easier.

December (& 2012) in Review

I can't believe that December is already over! And that all of 2012 is at its end! Everything goes by so quickly, especially since I have moved around so much this past year. A lot has changed in 365 days. But before I get into all that new year stuff, let's take a look at my monthly goals.

For December I set myself these goals:

Get through finals without going crazy.

Sleep more.

Look for an online writing job.

Write more in my novel.

Update the shop at least once, preferably twice.

So I managed the first three things. Finals were long and crazy -I had a ton of work to do and on top of the moving process (which I am still not done with), it was pretty stressful. But I managed to hand in all my papers on time and I think I did pretty well on the one exam that I had. My crazy status is at a stable level.

I did sleep more, especially once finals were over. Something about paper writing just makes me want to sleep for days.

I did look for online writing jobs. I applied to a few, heard back from no one. I suppose other people might be discouraged, but I plan to keep at it. I will find another in town part time job if I have to in the mean time. Fingers crossed!

As for the last two, I honestly haven't had the time or energy. The shop is on vacation right now until everything is settled, and the most I have done for my novel is jot down some notes and write down a few good sentences here and there. I have been writing some poetry though, so that counts for something, right? Maybe, haha.

I am not disappointed with the last month at all. I think it has been a good end to the year and I am excited to get into 2013 and have an even better year. I am even thinking of doing a 365-challenge. Don't worry, if I do I will let you all know about it. I was thinking something like a portrait challenge. Ideas?

The day after

I really hope everyone had a lovely Christmas yesterday! I am lucky that I got to spend it with some of the people I love the most in the world. Plus my cat! Eli is currently living with my mom until I am somewhere I can have cats. We have a cat at our place now, but we're only allowed the one unfortunately, and she was here first. But Eli he seems to be getting along pretty well with my mom's kitten and was happy to see me for a few hours yesterday.

I got lots of wonderful and thoughtful gifts that I am hoping to share sometime soon with you all. Seriously, my friends and family know me so well. And after spending time at my mom's and eating a ton of food I got to spend the rest of the day with the man I love, building a puzzle, drinking champagne, eating ice cream, and watching Dreamworks Christmas specials and The Nightmare Before Christmas. It was absolutely wonderful. <3 p="p">

Today I am spending the day cleaning up a bit and lounging with this pretty little lady:

The day after Christmas always seems strange to me. I guess because there is such build up to the actually holiday and then it's over so fast. I'm never sure what to do the next day. Does anyone else feel strange the day after, or is that just me?

I hope everyone has a lovely holiday (if you celebrate it) and enjoys time with family, food, presents, and the like. I will be returning to a regular blogging schedule once the holidays are over. In the mean time I will be eating tons of good food, drinking lots of tea and wine, and setting up in the new apartment.

Happy Yule!

Today is Yule, aka the Winter Solstice! That means, despite any snow we've previously gotten, today is the first official day of winter! I keep putting exclamation points like I'm excited -I actually really don't like winter all that much as I prefer warmer months. Buuuut, Yule is a pretty great witchy holiday with cool traditions, and is an important holiday on the wiccan Wheel of the Year. It is the shortest day of the year, but that means that after today the days will get longer -and I am so ready for some more sunlight at the end of the day. Every day will be a day closer to spring.

Me and this lady typically do a friend gift exchange on Yule like we would with our families on Christmas, and when we are feeling super ambitious we even make cookies and hold a ritual. Unfortunately, this year has been far too hectic, and due to my move (and her pending move) we have already exchanged gifts because I won't see her today. However, I am hoping to get some baking in tonight to celebrate the season!

And, of course, to celebrate (yet again) surviving the end of the world. With the amount of times people have predicted the apocalypse in the past decade or so, you'd think it wouldn't be a big deal anymore, haha. 

It is raining an awful lot though which I am not a fan of. I will be spending my Yule inside where it's warm and dry, curled up with blankets and slippers and hot coffee.

The Last Exam + Packing

I took my last exam today and I think I did alright actually. I was kind of worried about the class but the test wasn't as hard as I anticipated and I'm pretty sure I at least aced the essay question. Which means I am done with schoolwork for the semester! Hurrah!

And now I am on to packing. Again. D:

I watched Rock of Ages last night and I loooved it and now all I want to do is listen to 80s hair metal. Which is, of course, exactly what I'm doing while packing.

I have gotten a lot of my homework done for the semester, but I am still not done. I have conquered two papers, and two other assignments, but I still have an 8-10 page paper to do and an exam to study for.

I can't wait until it's over.

I am not graduating this semester. I had planned to, but in order to have the credits I need to graduate I would have to take winter classes, Which would be fine, but they run about $800 a piece and there is no way for me to get financial aid for them. Needless to say, I do not have the money right now. 

So I am taking some time off and plan to finish my degree over the summer. It gives me enough time to save the money as well as some time to breath. College is incredibly stressful, especially when the rest of your life is constantly shifting and moving beneath your feet. It will be nice to not have to worry about finishing a paper on time for awhile.

It also means I will be able to dedicate some more time here. I have a lot of cool posts I have been wanting to make, but I just haven't had enough time or energy to put into them after I get done with everything else that, unfortunately, has to take precedence. But more magick, thrift, and other awesome posts are soon to come!

In the mean time, however, I am going to tackle this last paper and start to study for my exam.

Oh yeah. I quit my job. I am moving in the coming week so I kind of had to. I was going to wait until next week to do it but I honestly didn't have time for my shifts this weekend on top of all the homework I am doing. I will be finding another one once I am moved and settled in though.

Busy Bee

The next few weeks are packed full of responsibilities and things that need to get done for me. It is the end of the semester and the homework, papers, and final exam projects are piling up. Everyone is in crunch mode as professors try to cram in all the work they wanted to get done for the semester. An on top of that I have orders to ship, online writing jobs to look for and apply to, and things to pack, as I am moving in a few weeks.

Plus go to work so that I can pay my last months rent and finish doing my holiday shopping.

December is busy busy busy. I can't wait until school is out and I get some more time to relax. I am itching to just sit down with a book and read for hours with a cup of tea and my cat. 

Speaking of said kitty:

He is lounging in the chair behind me, looking at me and occasionally meowing. He thinks he needs attention every second of every day. Because cat.

December Goals

I can't believe it's December already! 2012 is almost over. Weird to think about, the beginning of the year feels like a mere few weeks ago. I feel like my life is moving at the speed of light recently.

Hopefully December will be happy and filled with good people and good energy. It is the holiday season after all, and although Halloween is my favourite holiday of the year, Christmas/Yule is definitely not far behind! I love to see my friends and family and give gifts and eat too much candy.

Goals for the month are...
