Happy V-Day Lovers!

If you are the type of person who moans and groans over Valentine's day and your lack of significant other than you should probably back it up and exit it out of here. Unless you're totally into reading about me telling you how great V-Day is and why you should be happy and enjoy the holiday regardless of whether or not you've got a love in your life. Then you should stick around.

Because I am one of those people that doesn't care if they have a significant other for this holiday. I really, really don't. Valentine's Day is about love, all kinds of love, not just the romantic mushy kind. So take the chance to send messages to the people you love, give chocolates to your mom, wear something nice and tell yourself you look good in the mirror, drink wine with your best friend, cuddle with your cat, or compliment someone on the street. Spread the love around.

Was this enough of a feel good post for you? Do you feel inspired, renewed, overwhelmed with joy? You should. It's a good day. It's a great day.

And if you're still a little sad about not having a romantic partner, just remember, all that candy goes on sale tomorrow!

This is something I could really do to remember and keep in mind everyday. I try to be good to myself, but some days it's just hard.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Happy V-Day Lovers!

It's Valentines day! -throws imaginary heart shaped confetti in the air- Isn't that exciting? Holidays in general are exciting because they give us an excuse to wear holiday colours, eat candy, exchange gifts and cards, and make lots of homemade yummies.

If you're not a Valentine's day fan then I suggest you check out the post I wrote last V-day and then get back to me.

You may have noticed by now (and I really hope you have) that I am a huge advocate for self-love and loving the things and people you choose to surround yourself with -in doing all things with love. I really hope that today especially you all remember how incredible you are and how much the universe loves you. Treat yourself to a nice bubble bath, a glass of wine, new perfume (or cologne for you men!), or whatever makes you feel good. Spend time with the people you care about, tell them how much they mean to you. Don't let a moment of your life be wasted and try to infuse every day with a big dose of heartfelt love and kindness.

That's what Valentines day is about.

Reasons Why I Love My Cat

Eli + his feather toy #cat #mybabykitty

I adore my cat, Eli. Cat lady? Ooooh yesss, most definitely. I can't help it -he's a big bundle of furry love. I have had him since June and together we have moved around a lot already, but he is a good sport about it. He adjusts to new houses quickly and goes from hiding under the couch to exploring in about a half an hour.

So I thought I would take today to comprise a small list of all the reasons I love Eli.

He is very friendly and loves attention.
He lays funny (with his legs sticking out at a weird angle -he looks like a chicken)
He goes mental for catnip and it's funny to watch.
He makes funny noises in his sleep.
He likes to sleep at the foot of the bed and keep my toes warm.
He will jump pretty high for a toy he wants.
He doesn't eat any food except for his own.
He rolls around a lot, especially when trying to open something.
He purrs all the time.
He meows at me a lot -I think he's trying to tell me stories.
He follows me around the house.
He is fascinated by running water.
He makes funny faces when he is confused,.

There are a ton more I'm sure, haha. He is such a crazy cat and I couldn't be happier with him. He gets a ton of attention and affection, that's for sure.

I hope everyone is having a lovely Thursday!

P.S. I have a lot of fun posts coming up, including a dress review from a really awesome clothing site, some info on how you can get free nailpolish, and a recipe to make your own BBQ chips! Excited? I am. :)

Love Lives Here

Love.

It is the most important thing in this world. It has taken me a long to see that and to really understand what it means, but my eyes are finally opening.

Love lives here
Buy.
Loving friends. Loving family. Falling in deep romantic love with another soul. Loving pets. Loving fresh air and the smell of dirt. Loving warm tea and homemade food. Loving art. Loving books. Loving long journeys, adventures, and exploring new places. Loving all the small things.

And all the big things that are deep and vibrate our bones. Learning to love the rawness of our emotions, no matter what they are. Love is what keeps us together and what connects us to the people and world around us. There is so much more that opens up to us when we allow ourselves to unfold and let love in. Let it take root in our hearts and thrive in our spirits.

Love has moved in with me and it is here to stay.

Live Your Truth

live your truth

This phrase has been popping up in my head a lot lately. I am only just realizing how important this concept is, the weight of these words is finally hitting me. I feel it sinking into me and changing the way I see things.

There are things I know in my soul, that vibrate my bones and are hot in my blood. They are not necessarily things that other people feel passion for or agree with, but they are mine, and I must stay true to them. They are my truths.

Love. Compassion. Creativity. Honesty. Wildness. Equality. Fearlessness.

I Promise

I spend a good amount of time reading the love-filled and inspiring blogs of some seriously amazing people. Their words fill me up and have helped me to become firm in my love for myself. They are kindred souls who have made me feel less alone.

So I have made a promise to myself.

I promise to work hard at what I love & not listen to others who try to tell me what I "have" to do to be successful. I will make my own way

I promise to be myself in all aspects of Life. To practice my crafts, revel in love, and nurture my soul. To be strange and free and wild.

I promise that I will not let my past control me. I will not allow others to dictate my actions or emotions. I will not regret my life.

I promise that I will be true to love, the Universe, and most importantly, Myself. For I am the Universe and the Universe is me.

I am in control. No one else gets to hold the reigns. There is no room for negativity. My soul is honest & it dances with me upon the Earth.

Strange Love

I love Rumi, okay? <3>

I came across this on Pinterest and it immediately spoke to me. It was the stirring feeling of when you read something or look at something and it just resonates with your soul. I love that feeling.

My strange love pulls me to green forests, rocky riverbeds, salty shores, and crumbling temples to long-ago gods and goddesses.

Where does your strange love pull you?

My Mason Jar Project Revealed!

I had mentioned before that I was working on a secret project involving a mason jar and now it is time to reveal what I was doing! And why it was a secret in the first place.

I didn't mention what it was when I talked about all the neat things you can do with mason jars because it was a gift -a Valentines Day gift for my amazing boyfriend. I'm happy to say that he loves it and therefore I am confident and sharing my idea and creation with you all.

For the sake of staying awesome we're going to call this project the Jar of Dreams project. That name just kind of came to me and I like the way it sounds, win! Haha, anyways, this is something that is perfect as a gift for the important people in your life, whether they be your significant other, best friend, or close family member. The idea is simple, get a jar and fill it with dreams!

Before we go too much farther, here are the things you'll need: mason jar, paper (unlined will look better, I used sketchbook paper), construction paper/paint sample (in any colour you want), good pen, embroidery thread, a few pretty beads, acrylic paint (again, any colour), and glue (I just used a glue stick.)

I love mason jars, they're very aesthetically appealing in vintage-y kind of way. And glass is always more charming than something like plastic. Although I imagine a Chest of Dreams (wooden) would be just as wonderful as a jar. But a mason jar is probably easier to get a hold of and cheaper as well. I bought mine at a thrift store for 99 cents, and you just can't beat that kind of price.

Alright, so to get going on constructing this dream jar, you'll need to cut up your paper into pieces small enough that they'll fit into your jar but big enough that you can fold them in half. You don't have to fold them, but a lot of the fun in this is being able to pull out the pieces of paper and open them up to see what they say. You can make as many as you want, but it's best to make enough so that the jar is full. No one wants a half full jar of dreams.

As for the "dreams" you're putting on the paper, those are entirely up to you. I wrote down things like "lots of hugs," "live together," and "go on coffee dates." Whatever you hope to do and experience with that person can go on a slip of paper, whether it's a serious life dream or just something silly.

Now take a part the lid of your mason jar and use the flat(ish) piece to trace a circle on your construction paper or paint sample. I used a red pain sample that I picked up from Home Depot which I prefer to construction paper because of how much sturdier it is. Cut out the circle and then use your paint to write something on it -this is your choice. If you have something cute that means something between you and the person you're giving this too then use that. For mine I wrote "Hope and Wishes" in white paint.

Excuse my bad phone camera picture.

When that dries, glue the edges to the raised part of the mason jar top and then set it inside the screw top part. I hope that all makes sense, I'm not sure what the terminology is for the parts the lid, but if you know your mason jars then you probably know what I'm talking about.

Now take your thread and wrap it around the top of the jar so that it sits below the lid and just above the swell of the glass. Tie it in place and let the excess hang down as that's where your beads come into play. Add your beads and tie them off. I used a few red and pearly seed beads as well as some silver star beads. You can also do this part with ribbon, with or without beads.

All that's left is to fill your jar up with your folded notes and voila! A very heartfelt and cute gift to give to someone you love.

My finished product.

Spread the Love

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Before you start moaning and groaning about how you hate Valentine's day and how commercial it is or how you don't have a significant other anyways just hear me out. I used to be just like that and I know how you feel. But it doesn't have to be that way.

So what if Valentine's day is a commercial holiday? No one is forcing you to buy fancy chocolate or Hallmark cards with doily hearts on them. Regardless of all the stuff people buy for others for this holiday, Valentines day is ultimately about love. And that's something I can get behind.

You don't have to be cheesy to celebrate today. You don't have to hand out cards and flowers and chocolate to all the special people in your life. And you certainly don't have to sit around moping about how you're not in a relationship and have no one to share a fancy dinner with. That's not what it's all about. If anything, today is a day to  think about the people and things in your life that you really love and appreciate. Give your mom a call and wish her a happy V-day and tell her how much she means to you. Give your best friend a hug. Snuggle with your cat. Curl up on the couch and enjoy your favourite book.
Just focus on the positive.
That's what today, and everyday really, is about. Why not embrace it? I bet you'll feel much better about yourself and life in general if you throw out all those negative feelings towards Valentine's day that you've had pent up for however long.

But don't limit the love to your friends and family (and pets)!

Valentine's day is a great day to focus on yourself as well. Self-love is so important and something I don't think people indulge themselves in enough! Loving yourself isn't vain or narcissistic, it's a beautiful, freeing experience that can really improve your life. I know I sound like some kind of self-help manual, but I'm speaking from my own personal experience.

I hated myself for a long time and that hate built up in me and tainted my view of the world. Because of my self-loathing I also disliked other people (often for no reason) and I was constantly pessimistic. Honestly, I was no fun to be around. But recently I've gone through a transformation of sorts where I have learned to love my life, regardless of all the crap that's been in it. I look in the mirror and I don't hate what I see. I embrace every little scar. Even on my bad days I don't think I would change myself. I might say that I would, but when it comes down to it, I don't want to be anyone other than me.

And if that's not something to celebrate this Valentine's day then I don't know what is.

So love yourself, be your own valentine! Indulge in chocolate from yourself, pour yourself a glass of wine, pick out your own flowers and spend some quality time with you.
And if loving yourself is still a foreign concept, take a look at Gala Darling's 100 Ways You Can Start Loving Yourself. The woman is a real inspiration.

Love is a powerful force in the world and people shouldn't be afraid to let it into their lives. Commercial holiday or not, take the opportunity to appreciate your life, loved ones, and yourself.

Pancakes, Hair Dye and Wine

Those are some of the ingredients to having a wonderful evening with your best friend, which is exactly what I did last night. My bestie was not feeling great yesterday so we spent the night doing awesome things like making banana pancakes, dyeing our hair, watching The Vampire Diaries (I'm making my way through season one) and drinking the last bit of Cabarnet Sauvignon that was in the fridge.

Needless to say it was a good night and now I am blonder than ever and Sue has a nice layer of dark purple hair that looks awesome. And of course the tub and her hands are now tinted to match.

When you're having a bad day, being with your best friend really is the best medicine. Sooo, if you need some girl time, here are some awesome ideas on how to spend your night with your bestie(s) -sorry male readers, I'm not actually sure what you guys do for fun, haha.

Dye your hair
That's what we did and it was a lot of fun. Changing up your appearance and doing something new and funky will usually lighten your mood, or at least it always has for me. I have been constantly changing my hair colour, cut and style since I was about 13 and it's very therapeutic.

Food!
Screw the diet, indulge yourself! Make pancakes with all the fixings or brownies or a massive plate of nachos. Drink a few extra glasses of wine, spike your hot cocoa, let yourself let go a little bit. Unless you're underage, in which case stick to the baking!

DVDs or Netflix
Watch something you particularly enjoy or something that you haven't seen yet but hear good things about. I always like a good vampire movie, but that's just me, everyone has their thing. I also really enjoy a good stand up act and highly recommend Eddie Izzard, Dylan Moran or Russell Brand for a night of laughs.

Dance/DDR
Dancing around like a crazy person is always a great way to feel better! I do it all the time, especially when I'm with my close friends. Just blast some upbeat music and let loose like you wouldn't dare in front of strangers. Or maybe you would, who knows, but just have fun! Or if you have DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) play that. It's a great way to let off steam and gets your body moving. Plus the music is great.

Cats
If you have a cat or cats, play with them. This works with any animal actually. Pets are great because they love you no matter what and just laying around, scratching your feline behind the ears or teasing them with a laser pointer can take your mind off other things and lighten your heart up a bit. You can do this with or without your best friend, but it's a good way to kill time while waiting for the dye to sit or brownies to finish baking.

Have an awesome night in, you deserve it :)

(Thoughtful Thursday #3) Things That People Have A Right To

  • Freedom of religion
  • Freedom of speech
  • Happiness
  • Marry whoever they want, regardless of gender/sex
  • Have an abortion if they so choose
  • Wear what they want and not be treated poorly for it
  • Respect unless they have disrespected you
  • Privacy
  • Read, watch or listen to whatever they like
But no one has the right to take away these rights or try to dictate how others live their life.
It's not difficult people; be kind, be respectful, and be yourself. Don't judge others. Don't encroach on other people's happiness. As long as they are not harming you in any way, there is no need to attack them, verbally or physically.
Do no stoop to the level of a bully. Defend yourself as necessary but do not seek out violence or arguments. Live peacefully and lovingly; you'll be much happier that way.

It surprises me how many people cannot grasp these simple concepts. We are all human beings and we should treat each other as such.
