Cemetery Excursion

I am so happy that it's finally back to that time of year when I can go outside and enjoy the weather with a good book. There's a lovely cemetery not too far from my college campus that is a great place for reading and taking pictures.

I'll admit, I don't go to school in the nicest city -it's got its perks though. I mean just look at this view.

It's just a crappy phone picture, but it really is beautiful, sans my awkward looking shadow, haha. I love going up there and just looking around. My school is in one of the hilliest cities in the United States, and when you get up somewhere high you can really see a lot. This is one of the best places for that.

It's also just a nice place to hang out.

Yeah, I'm that weird girl that hangs out in graveyards. I always have been. It's a habit I picked up from my mother actually. We've explored many a cemetery together, taking pictures, reading, and just enjoying the tombstones. I suppose death and graves freak a lot of people out, but I don't see cemeteries that way. To me they're peaceful. I'm just strange like that I guess, haha.

One last one of my wonderful boyfriend reading Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen (which is a fabulous book by the way, you should read it!)

Another Shop!?

Yes! I have opened my second online shop as of yesterday!

As most of you know, I run an etsy shop filled with handmade jewelry (and more handmade goodies to come!) already. The prices are cheap and I update it pretty often -my last update was only yesterday and I added some new necklaces and earrings.

I've been pretty busy with not only that shop, but my new one as well, which is hosted by Storenvy. THRIFT HEART is an online thrift store where you can see and buy some of my local charity shop finds. The store is separate from Unlaced Shop of (he)ART because I do not just sell vintage items, but newer things as well. Whatever I find perusing the racks has the possibility to end up in Thrift Heart.

AAAANNNDD I am keeping the prices cheap. I love looking at vintage and thrifted finds in other people's shops, but I usually cringe at the price tag attached. I don't know about the rest of you, but I have a budget, and clothes are not something I can afford to spend a lot on. I just can't justify 30$ on a t-shirt.

As of right now, nothing in Thrift Heart is over 10$! Not even kidding -my most expensive item right now is a 9$ vest from The Limited that looks like it's out of the 80s.

Right now the shop just has clothing, but you can probably expect to see belts, bags, and other accessories as well over time. Keep checking back for new stock.

I'm super excited about this new project and I'm really hoping it will take off. So if you're into cool, cheap clothing, spread the word and have fun browsing.

I hope you're all having a great Sunday! It's beautiful out here and I wish I didn't have so much homework to do. I'd much rather be outside enjoying the sun.

There are four new items listed in the shop today!

Hope your Saturday has been as good as mine! I bought so delicious organic tea today so I am a pretty happy camper. Lemon Jasmine Green Tea is dee-vine, haha.

Haiku!

Written any? I used to hate them to be honest. I thought the syllable count was too restricting and I always felt silly counting them out of my fingers. I've gotten over my dislike of them, but I still count on my fingers, haha.

So with that, here is one of my haikus!

Coffee is sweet warmth
On these tired mornings
Slowly I wake up

Not too bad, right? Opinions and feedback are always welcome. As is poetry sharing in general -show me your haiku attempts! And if you can't remember what a haiku is, refresh your memory here.

A New Venture Idea

I have been thinking a lot about writing and how to make money doing it. It's my first and deepest passion and I would love to build myself a career around it. The literary world is my true niche. I write for shebudgets.com, as many of you know, and that has definitely been a great addition to my writing life. It's been great experience for writing with deadlines.

But today, while sitting at my computer and surfing for online writing jobs, I had an idea! As a talented (I'm pretty sure I'm talented) writer and fourth year college student studying English, I could offer my editing services. I have edited pieces of various writings for my friends and families consistently for years, but I have never done it for a fee before. I think it's something I would like to take a shot at.

After a little bit of brainstorming, this is what I came up with:
I would post listings on Etsy that way my customers would know the payment is secure and I would be able to advertise it better. The fee would be about 15$ per piece under 20 pages. Anything longer than that could be negotiated price-wise. Anything you wanted looked over would be a possibility -school papers, cover letters, your own creative works, etc.
I would not re-write things for you, simply make spelling and grammar edits, as well as structural and word choice suggestions. I would send back to you an edited document, with my edits in red, as well as a few notes on what could be improved, tweaked, etc.

Thoughts? Opinions? Ideas? Advice? I want to know what people think before I go through with this venture. Any kind of feedback is appreciated.

Bloglovin' & Tumblr Tuesday

You can now follow this blog on Bloglovin! There is a button in the sidebar to find it on that site, or just click here. I don't use the site as blogger allows me to keep a reading list of all the blogs I follow, but I figured it would be nice to be on the site for those of you who do use it.

Now on to the Tumblr Tuesday part of this post!

This is so perfect.

Look at how cute this kitten is! sajkfgiusdk

A dose of inspiration for you all :)

Have a good Tuesday everyone! I have to finish studding my jean vest before tonight. I am going to be a Rockabilly Zombie tonight for my favourite clubs "Zombie Prom" event!

I told you there would be more stuff in the very near future. And this is only the beginning of the updates. I am working on a pretty pair of beaded hoop earrings at the moment, as well as more feather earrings.

Here's three new beautiful items I have listed in the shop:

Thrifty Thursday :D

I've found some awesome stuff recently. Liiiike...

I looove this bag. It's so pretty and useful.

Can you believe these were only 0.49$ each??

I fell in love with this pillow case immediately. Tigers are my favourite animal <3

Pretty sun candle holder.

DC skate shoes, in pretty good condition. Really happy about this find, I needed a new pair of skate shoes.

Unfortunately, money is really tight right now so I don't foresee much thrifting in the near future. I will however continue with these posts -I'll just share things I've thrifted in the past.

Hope you're all having a lovely day!

Tumblr Tuesday!

I am itching for a new tattoo!

Haha, Karen Walker is my spirit animal.

Also I found a fantastic blog that I think everyone should take a look at:

Happy Friday the 13th!

Hey ghoulies (I might take to calling all my readers that now) it's Friday the 13th! How awesome is that? Little, lame things like this make my goffy heart sing, haha. I wish I could say I was doing something super-cool to mark the day, but I'm not. :(

Actually I'm still sitting around in my dorm room not doing anything (reading all the newest blog posts of the people I follow) instead of getting a move on and doing all the things I need to do. Like shower, eat something, go register for my Seminar class next semester, work on homework....

I'd rather just chill out in the sun with a book or my sketchpad, even though I know the sunshine through my window is deceiving me. It's not as nice out as it looks. I also have some jewelry projects and clothing deconstruction/studding that sounds like more fun than my current to-do list. Me and my boyfriend starting studding some jean vests we got last week and we have plans for patches as well. He's pretty into the punk scene. I like the aesthetic. My patches will be things like a Sylvia Plath quote and something Emilie Autumn related, haha. I will share when it's done. I have a few other altered clothes I want to share as well. Keep your eyes peeled.

What are your plans for this lovely Friday the 13th? Doing anything fun and ghoulish? (I've been looking at too much Monster High stuff lately, can you tell? I can't help it, those dolls are awesome!)

Part of the newest news on MonsterHigh.com. Can't wait to read the whole thing!

Hope your day is awesome!

Thrifty Thursday

I've decided that Thursdays are official thrift-update days. Hopefully this helps me stay consistent.

Here's some of the stuff I've found recently:
This shirt is actually pretty fitted and awful chesty, but I don't mind :)

Love, love, love this shirt!

TWLOHA Shirt, so happy to have found this <3

This skirt is so 90s it's ridiculous! It's two layers, the shorter piece has polka dots on it!

I absolutely love the Salvation Army by my school, I always find a bunch of awesome stuff. Anyone else find any cool things on their thrift adventures lately?

Change of Heart

I thought the title for this post was witty, but  it's probably just lame, haha. You may have noticed a change in the past few days -the blog/shop/fb fan page names have all changed! I used to have everything titled "Hand of Fate" but I decided it was time to find something more fitting.

It started with the new shop name.

Nice right? I wanted a new name for it because I am hoping to expand my inventory into new realms in the coming months. I wanted something that was better suited for my new ventures. Jewelry will still be a main focus (although different styles and designs are on their way) but I also want to include more artsy things. Small paintings, collages, bookmarks, etc. That's not all though -deconstructed t-shirts should be making their way into the store soon as well. I love finding cool shirts from a thrift store and tearing it up to give it a more grungy, edgier look.

So the shop is where is started, but then I realized if I did that, I should change the name of my blog as well. Obviously I couldn't call it the same thing as the shop and after some brainstorming I decided on "Unlaced Heart." It sounds nice and encompasses what I do here quite well. I dig into my heart and mind and share it with you all.

So, opinions on this new venture? I'd love to hear what my readers have to say.

Hope you're all having a lovely day!

Do you hoop?

If you don't, you should! And yes, when I say hoop, I mean hula hoop. It's not just for kids and it's a whole lot of fun. Me and my bestie started to get into it about a year ago. We both started up with cheap kids hoops (hers was a light up one and mine was a bright, glittery yellow) but recently we have progressed to more professional hoops.

Both of us bought our hoops from this wonderful etsy shop run by a lovely woman named Casey who is super-sweet. She sells a wide variety of hoops that you can customize with different kinds of grip tape so that your hoop is 100% you. You can choose from regular or collapsible and she even gives you all the info you need to determine which weight and diameter is right for you. I now own two of these beauties by her, this one being my latest. Mine is in teal star/moon tape and plum purple tape. It's pretty and mystical and I love it!

Unfortunately the weather has been kind of chilly as of late so hooping outside hasn't been an option. I want the 70 degree (F) days to come back! There isn't enough room on my dorm to get my hoop on properly. The most I can do is stand in place, and I would be terrified to try more than one at a time.

But once it gets nice out again I fully anticipate sunny afternoons outside on the campus quad with loud music and lots of hooping and dancing around. Preferably barefoot and in a fun skirt.

My hoop collection <3

Thrifted Finds

I've been thrifting a lot lately so I thought I'd share some of the stuff I've found in the past 2 weeks. I really want to get better about updating with my finds the day (or day after) I actually get them.

First and foremost I would like to start off with these babies:
Why yes, these are authentic, vintage Dr. Marten's that I found for 8$ in exactly my size! I have been wanting these exact shoes for ages, but they cost 120$ new. Yikes! When I found these on the shoe rack at Salvation Army I almost fainted with joy.

This is also one of my favourite recent finds. The picture really doesn't do it justice. It fits perfectly and has a nice flare to it. I want the weather to warm up so I can wear it.

I absolutely love pieces like this. They're lightweight, breathable in the summer, and sooo comfy. The store actually had a bunch of things like this, all in different colours and patterns. I have no idea why someone would get rid of such treasures!

The shirt I am wearing today! I paid 0.99$ for it and had to have it for obvious reasons.

I found some other neat stuff, too, including a Damon Salvatore shirt, a purple silky blouse, and a purple furry backpack that looks like it's from the 90s. And I am going out again today. My boyfriend and I are looking to find some ridiculous 80s prom clothes for the Zombie Prom event being held at my favourite nightclub. So excited for that!

That's all I have for thrift stuff, but before you leave, take a look at my two newest posts on shebudgets.com:

Tumblr Tuesday

A few things I've been loving on Tumblr lately.

I want my nails to look like that last picture all the time! I wonder how they did it. I'm such a sucker for anything Moon related. I am a cancer after all, haha.

Also, don't forget, all things in my Etsy Shop have been super-reduced in price to make way for some new inventory in the (hopefully) near future. Check it out!
