InPink Bangles

A few weeks back I entered a giveaway over on this lovely lady's blog and was lucky enough to receive $40 to InPink! Needless to say, I was ecstatic.

So I went to check my mail yesterday and was even more excited to find my purchase waiting for me. if you follow my Tumblr or are a fan of my Facebook Page then you may have already seen the beautiful set of bangles I bought, but if not, here they are:
(excuse my craptastic webcam photos D:)

Aren't they beautiful? I love the mix of gold, silver and black. And I can wear them with just about anything in my wardrobe, which is always a plus. I really love wearing bangles and I am so happy to have gotten the chance to expand my collection out to include these beauties.

Here's the photo from the site for a more clear view of what they look like:

I am so happy with them :D

Anyone else get something new and wonderful lately? Do share!

Also
You may have noticed a few changes to the sidebar. I added a bigger and better list of some of my favourite blogs, complete with pretty buttons and everything. If you see this and your blog is on there, thanks so much for being awesome! Aaaaand  posted my very own button that you can grab and add to your own site.
These are the first steps I'm taking towards having a sponsoring system. I would love to see my ad on other blogs and have people advertise on mine. And my stats are getting better recently, so I know people are looking here, which makes me one super-happy lady! I love you all!

Wordy Wednesday

Haven't done one of these in foreeeevvver, eek! hopefully going to fix that in the next few months. So in honour of trying to get back on track with it, here are some writing-inspired images:

buy here: http://lindarohrbough.us/clocks.htm -I really want one!

Writing really is my passion, and I am trying to get my feet off the ground and actually make substantial money working within the field. I write for shebudgets.com as most of you know, and I am waiting to hear back on my first freelance editing job. I am constantly on the lookout for opportunities like that. But I also write my own fiction -urban fantasy novels actually, and I hope one day to see my stories in print.

Here's an excerpt from my novel-in-progress, Runaway (Chapter 3):

It wasn’t long before the sweet aroma of coffee wafted through the air, instantly lifting my mood. I still wasn’t thrilled about my crappy sleep and the wretched hour I was awake at, but I had caffeine so life could be worse. The idea of facing the day without it would be terrifying. I’m not a crazy coffee junkie but I liked to get my fix, especially when I had to get up early. Or when my life was somehow being threatened. Both which applied to my current situation. Not exactly the greatest combination of things to start off one’s day.
The cats began to stir and joined me in the kitchen as I poured myself a steaming cup of liquid deliciousness, bumping their heads into my legs and demanding to have their ears scratched. I complied, wishing I could stay in this moment and not have to deal with anything. Coffee and cats –there wasn’t much else a girl could ask for. I’d take that over stalkers and psychos any day of the week. But reality was bubbling up underneath the morning haze and soon I couldn’t stop thinking about the shit situation I was in.

Hope you enjoyed the sneek-peek!

May in Review

At the beginning of the month I made a post filled with all my goals for May. Looking back at the month I am mostly satisfied with how it went although I did not get as much done as I had hoped.

The big thing these past few weeks has definitely been the move. My boyfriend and I are now living together in our first home outside our families and it's super exciting! Unfortunately, moving is also stressful (money sucks you guys) but I think we've done okay considering. The rest of my stuff should be in by the end of this week and then all that's left for us to do is organize. I will try to get some pictures up of what it looks like when everything is put together. But in the meantime, here's a brief preview of what it looks like now, unpacked boxes, clutter and all!

Most of what's in those boxes are my books. I own a lot! And those are Halloween twinkle lights on top of the coffee box (which is also filled with books.)

I have also spent most of the month searching for a part time job in the area with no luck so far. I have a few more applications to follow up on, but if they aren't hiring I am going to have to start getting really creative with ways to make money. My online shops and job writing for shebudgets.com is not enough. Anyone need something (writing) edited? I can do it for a small fee, haha.

I also didn't update my shops as much as I wanted, but I do have the items for them, so that's something at least.

I haven't written much more in my novel, either, although that has been mostly due to lack of time on my part.

I have been able to take more reflection time, although I am hoping to make it even more of a priority in the coming months. I need some serious meditation time to center myself and keep me going.

Aaaand I have not worked out as regularly as I would have liked, although that comes down to a matter of time as well. I have been hooping whenever I can though, and me and my other half practiced quite a bit yesterday.

All in all it wasn't a bad month, but hopefully I can stay on task better in June. Check back for next months goals, I should have them posted soon!

Tumblr Tuesday + Post Ideas

Tumblr has been aaaawesome lately!
(Heads up: Don't leave after all the pictures, I have things to ask!)

Sorry if that was a bit of an image overload, but I just couldn't make up my mind, haha!

Now on to part two of this post :D

I really want to expand this blog and cover more ground about my personal life and interests, but I'm not really sure where to start. I'm hoping to get a few more Thrifty Thursday posts in, and it's been forever since I did a Musical Monday post. But I want to know what you lovely readers would like to see.

Keep in mind that I'm a writer, jewelry-creator, wannabe artist who loves cats, magick, alternative fashion, Harry Potter and books. I have a lot of interests actually. So let me know what you want to see!

Summer 2012: Reading List

Summer is always the time I use to catch up on some serious reading. As an English Lit major in college I don't actually have much downtime to read for fun. Instead I get a stack of class reading for the semester that I get buried in for months, and by the time all my homework is complete for the day I just want to hang out with friends or go to bed.

But summer is different because despite the fact that I work and make tons of plans to see friends and go exciting places throughout the vacation from school, I still jam in tons of time to read what I want. I make a list that I tape to my wall and then add and cross things off as necessary. This year, however, I've decided to post my list online! And I've already finished one book and am well into my second. Hurrah!

This is my current read:
It's the third book in The Hollows Series by Kim Harrison. I highly recommend it to anyone into urban fantasy, which is my genre of choice hands down. I could live in that section of Barnes and Noble and be completely content. Just bring me coffee and scones periodically and I'm set for life!

Anyways.... I originally posted my list on tumblr, which you can find here.

Buuuuut, to make things even easier on myself, I revived my Goodreads account, which I then spent hours on rating books and putting things on my to-read shelf. I also made a shelf just for my summer reading list which you can check out here.

If you don't have an account on this site, I suggest you get one, especially if you're an avid reader like myself. And if you're not such a reader, you should be! Reading is important!

Soooo, what is one everyone else's summer reading lists? Got any suggestions for me? I love fantasy/urban fantasy the most, but I'm open to just about anything!

Earthfest 2012

Me, my boyfriend, this lady, and a few friends were lucky enough to be able to get out to Boston yesterday for Earthfest! For those of your outside the area, Earthfest in a free concert put on by Radio 92.9 and Wholefoods to promote green living, organic food, and taking care of the environment.

This year the bands were pretty awesome. We got to see Eve 6, Switchfoot, The Spin Doctors, and Third Eye Blind... for free! All we had to do was get there in time to snag a piece of grass, sit back, and enjoy! It was so much fun, and I don't even regret getting the sunburn I am now sporting. The weather was beautiful, with no clouds in the sky. I'll take a bit of a burn to see awesome bands and spend time with the people I love.

Here are a few pictures from the day:

The stage when Eve 6 was playing.

I don't know what's going on with this pic xD

Sue blowing bubbles at me.

Sue and Mike being weirdos as always.

<3 <3 <3

Great day overall, and a wonderful way to spend a Saturday. Anyone else do something cool this weekend?

Coursework Complete!

After lots of library time trying to finish up my seminar paper, some minor frustrations trying to get codes to work for my computer science final, and an awesome last class of paper presentations (with pizza, booze-cupcakes, and beer!) I am finally done with all my work for the semester! I just have to finish packing up my dorm room and move everything out and into the new apartment. Hurrah!

I am excited to be starting my summer. I am still looking for a part time job, as well as other writing jobs online. If anyone has any leads for that last one, please let me know!

I have so many summer plans, other than working, and I am super excited! New shop stuff will definitely make an appearance, and I plan to put some serious time into writing my novel. I also have some DIY projects I am itching to try as well as some art pieces I want to get done. I'm not actually much of an artist, but I would like to get better. I see painting in my future.

Anyone else got cool summer plans?

Flower Power :D

Yes, I am still in crunch-mode (I am only halfway done my massive paper due in a few days) but I thought I would take a quick minute to share a recent obsession of mine: Flower crowns!

I don't have any yet but I am hoping to change that soon.

Kaley makes some seriously awesome flower crowns over on her etsy shop, Little Honey Pies.
Flower Garden Crown

Double Flower Garden Crown

Aren't they beautiful? I just started following Kaley's blog, Cold Hands + Warm Hearts and I love it. She's super-sweet and I suggest everyone pop over there and say hi.

And no, I didn't forget it's Mother's day, haha. I was lucky that I got to see my mom for a little bit today, which was nice because I really don't see her that often.

Exploring the Tarot: The Hierophant

The Hierophant
Keywords: enlightenment, spiritual quest

The Hierophant is a card concerning spirituality and enlightenment. The card usually depicts a pope with a a triple tiered crown -this represents the unity between mind, body, and soul. He wears a necklace of crossed keys (one gold, one silver) which represents a balance between masculinity and femininity. He holds a book or scroll for knowledge and is seen sitting between two pillars. The pillars are opposites -night and day, good and evil, life and death. The Hierophant sits between these things, representing and understanding and balance between them.

This card is a symbol for those looking to find meaning in life or embark on a quest of the spirit. It represents the search for truth and there is no religious restriction.

In a spread, this card may indicate it is time for you to use your mind to find answers and solutions. Wisdom will get you far, as will balance.

Crunch Time

It is that time of the college school year where classes are coming to an end and final exams are fast approaching. Technically, I only have one exam, but I do have an art project to finish, a personal essay to edit, and a 12-15 page seminar paper on William Blake and Radicalism to write. That last one is the real killer.

On top of all this I am trying to get moved into the new apartment me and my boyfriend just started renting. It's our first time moving away from our families and I couldn't be more excited about it! Definitely expect pictures once we get everything settled in.

So, in short, if my posts are a little fewer and farther between, all the things listed above are the reasons as to why. I will try to keep you all updated on things and share my randomness with you. A Tumblr Tuesday will definitely happen tomorrow, and hopefully I can squeeze in a few more things this week as well.

Anyone else feeling the pressure or impending finals? Best of luck to you if you are!

Cinco de Mayo Roundup

Anyone got cool plans for the day/night? I wish I did, however, I am simply too busy (and broke) to party or anything like that. That doesn't mean I'm not going to share some cool Cinco de Mayo stuff though!

This just amuses me. We celebrate it, but most people don't know why. Not that I'm saying you shouldn't have a good time!

How delicious does this cupcake look?

And of course you'll need a margarita recipe as well!
These are honestly one of my favourite drinks and one of the only ways I'll drink tequila.

Guacamole is also another love of mine <3
Find out how to make this one (as well as a yummy looking mango salsa!) here on A Beautiful Mess.

Here are some more Cinco de Mayo related things I've found:

Yes, that last picture is veggie tacos. Yum! I'm a vegetarian so no beef for me, but that does not mean I can't enjoy a good, meat-free taco.

Hope you all enjoy your day and get to do something fun.

The Avengers!

I went to the midnight premiere with a ton of friends last night for The Avengers!

It was fantastic! Joss Whedon did not let me down (not that I thought he would.) I definitely recommend this to anyone who likes the Marvel stuff. I'm not even into superheroes or comics, but I really enjoyed it. Loki was such a bad-ass and Thor was awesome and Tony Stark is witty and fabulous and everyone else was really great. Go see it!

Also I found out that Thor 2 is coming out next November! O: I a super-excited for that! Thor is probably one of my favourite movies ever! And Natalie Portman is suppose to be in it so I am looking forward to Jane's return.

Sooo, yeah, this has been my not-really movie review of The Avengers, haha.

Hope everyone is having a great Friday!

Modern Witchery: A Quick Blog Spotlight

As you all know, I am a witch! I cast spells, honour the Earth and the gods, read tarot cards, tote around crystals, and believe in the magick and energy of the universe. I am always on the lookout for new text to read that relate to this aspect of my life, be it a book, magazine, informational site, or blog.

Recently my best friend/other half started just that kind of blog and I am pretty much in love with it. It's perfect for the modern witch looking to add magick into their everyday. Check it out!

It's a fairly new blog so there's not a ton of posts to sift through yet, but what is there is definitely helpful and worth reading over. So far my favourite is the post on ways to stay focused for finals and end of the school year work, Final Fixes. Fluorite is always my go-to stone for studying and paper writing and there's a great bit on charm bags for staying motivated.

You should all go leave this pretty lady a comment or two on her stuff. She deserves it and I know it will make her smile :)

May Goals!

May is a big month for me this year! I am finishing up the semester (finals, eek!) and I am moving into my first apartment with my super-fabulous-awesome boyfriend! I'm sooooo excited!

For the past four years I have been living with my grandfather while I'm not in school. But I'm getting to the end of college life and I decided it was time I moved out. My boyfriend was kind of in the same boat with his parents and we have been looking for a place to live for the past few months. This week something finally panned out and we should be moving into a lovely one bedroom apartment not far from campus within the coming weeks. :D

So my May Goals are...
Getting settled into the new place and all that jazz.
Updated both shops with nifty new items.
Secure a part time job.
Write more of my novel.
Take more time to meditate and reflect.
Start working out regularly again.

I have a bunch of other stuff I want to do and get done as well but listing it all at once makes me a tad stressed out. I'm just going to live life as it comes. I think this list is a good starting point though, and it gives me something to work for throughout the month.

What are your May plans?

Happy Beltane/May Day!

Today is May 1 (as many of you probably might have noticed) which means that it's Beltane! Or May Day, both terms work. What is Beltane you ask? It's a witch/pagan fertility and fire holiday that celebrates the abundance and growth of the Earth, typically celebrated with fire and the Maypole.

Unfortunately for me, it's been raining here all day. And I know rain is important and vital to the Earth -I'm thankful for it, really. But I would have liked a little sunshine to get me in the spirit. I'm hoping it will clear up a bit tonight and be warm enough that me and my best friend can go hooping outside.

I wish I had the time to put in to make this holiday really memorable. I would love to have bonfires going all night and a maypole and dancing and wine and food -but I am an overworked, poor college student. Woe is me, haha. I try the best I can though to celebrate the Earth.

If you're like me (one busy witch!) then you might enjoy this post on Beltane ideas.

Hope you've all had a lovely day thus far and that some of you got some sunshine at least!

Tumblr Tuesday

Let's get down to it, shall we?

That last one is most of my existence, haha. Also, it's Beltane today, so look for a post about that a bit later.
