Art Journaling?

I have been thinking lately that it might be nice to start an art journal. I already keep a regular journal (which I should probably write in actually, whoops!) but I think having something a bit more creative would help me stay on track with my jewelry making and practicing painting. I'm not the best artist in the world by any means, but I like to paint abstracts, doodle, sketch out word art, and make collages. I also am guilty of having a huge box of crayons and a couple of colouring book. No regrets!

Anyways, back to the art journaling. I already have a sketchbook that would be great for the project so now I'm just trying to look stuff up about the process. I realize it's different for everyone and that creativity should come from you and not others, but I just want to get a feel for it, collect some ideas and prompts and then see where it takes me.

So this is what I've been looking at...

I've also been looking around for prompts and tips to get me started and I came across two really great blogs that I of course immediately followed.

Tammy's blog has a lot of really great stuff, including her Art Journaling 101 post which I've found to be really helpful. She provides an excellent list of recommended books as well as a basic supply list and other handy tips and ideas.

This is also a really neat and helpful blog although it hasn't been updated in awhile. I am enjoying going through the archives though. It has some cool prompts and an art journal handout download.

I also found this neat tutorial for turning a composition notebook into an art journal and these cool art journaling kits. I'd much rather make my own than buy a kit, but it's still cool anyways, especially if you really have no idea where to start.

Aaaand here's some other stuff that I am looking over as well :)

Check out my Pinterest Art Journal Inspiration Board.

Does anyone else keep an art journal? What is yours like and what do you find you like best about it? Is is helpful to keep? I want to know! Share with me!
